Final Project How K-pop has influenced American pop Culture
There was a time when you could say KPOP and others comment what’s that, what are you talking about, I’ve never heard of that. It has been slowly making its way into the American pop culture since the 2000’s. It was a strong Los Angles and New York city and there was a Koren music festival that sold out in 2003 at the Hollywood bowl. I’m sure there are many that know the song by Psy Gangnam Style that became a big hit in 2013, and this is also when K-drama started to become popular. This also made doors open for America to Koren designers like Yohji Yamamoto, Lanvin and Jermey Scott. During the pandemic two groups emerged and are still popular Blackpink and BTS. They have booth done solo projects that have been big in the USA. There has been crossover with American singers and groups like Coldplay and BTS My Universe. Megan three stallion add her own rap to their song butter with their permission. Rose from Blackpink has a song out Called APT that has Bruno Mars.

These two
groups have been able to make it past the barriers and are popular in America. BTS has gone to the point of taking on the
anti-Asian hate that stems from the black lives matter and from Chinas blame on
covid19. They went to the White House to give a speech against the hate, and they
even meet with President Biden. They also gave a speech at the United Nations
and did a little performance.
Since the popularity of K-pop there has been more Asian entertainment and culture on streaming services and in social media. Netflix has a vast library of anime, c-dramas and K-dramas. One that has made it past the two-season mark on Netflix Squid Games that you can find on social media spoof and skits done by others based on Squid Games. Another good one to check out if you like zombies and history is Kingdom. There are others on YouTube like You’re Beautiful about a kpop group. If you make your way to Los Angles there is a K con that is held there where kpop groups and idols preform.
