TED Talk by Eli Pariser "What Obligation Do Social Media Platforms Have to the Greater Good?"

So today I watched and listened to TED Talk and while watching and listening to it I thought about the question about social media platforms and its obligation to society. Social Media platforms should be held accountable for the information they put out there and what they are allowing others to put out there. A lot of the information being put out today is questionable, is it fake or not. There is also social media that leans more to the younger generation like Tik Tok that do challenges. There have been so many that have either lost their lives or hurt themselves from doing them thinking they are cool. There is also the sites that are used for bulling others and how many have been hurt from this or took their lives because of the bulling. It’s also has become a place for crimes to happen from scams and identity theft down to sex trafficking. They should have some kind of policing to help keeps these from happening or lessen the amount.

Where I go for my news

I used Facebook for news I have a few local news channels saved there.  My family is big Dodger fans so I keep up the information out there on Facebook and I will also google it to see what is out there. I do look at a lot of ESPN and AP since they do a lot of sports, but I also look at MLB too. I find them reliable to a point that's why I do multiple sources. Sometimes their views are the opposite, but I like seeing from both sides of the story.

When there is news that I'm not sure is fake will go google it and see what comes up like the fake deaths of celebrities on Facebook. I do it a lot on baseball checking who is on the IL or DFA. I try to keep an open mind when it comes to news, but I don't take the first article as truth I will always look it up at other places see what's going on.  I try to stay away from pollical news since there is so many different sources out there and views to know what's true or not. If I see multiple sites reporting the same news, then I know it's not fake and then I will discuss it with my families

I found this class interesting since I don't do a lot on social media besides Facebook and LinkedIn, so I am hoping to learn more about social media. I also hope taking this class will help me in finding jobs.  I don't do a lot of posting on Facebook and LinkedIn they are more for family and finding a job. It would be nice to understand social media better than I do.

I'm looking to change up my career because over the years I have done lot of damage to my body and need something with less stress physically and mentally.
